What is the the url to login to my ANGEL account?
That is http://angel.waol.org
How do I get an ANGEL account and Practice Classroom?
Instructor accounts and practice classrooms for existing WAOL instructors were created on October 9.
A flat-file process to be used by colleges to create instructor accounts and practice classrooms for instructors who are not already on WAOL was sent out on October 10.
Web-based self-registration for instructor accounts and practice classrooms--contact your ELC
I don’t remember my ANGEL username or password.
At the WAOL ANGEL site, in the login box there is an “I forgot my password” link under the “Log On” button. This will send you your login information.
As a Lead Instructor are there any expectations that I format any classrooms other than my own? In other words, am I responsible for only my course or do I need to recreate a general master for the course I lead?
Our only expectation is that each instructor imports their own classroom from Blackboard into ANGEL. You are not responsible for any classrooms beyond your own. If, after using our ANGEL resources and tutorials, you still have concerns about moving your class into ANGEL please call our office and we will be sure you get the support you need.
What training and support will you be offering to instructors who are moving to ANGEL for Winter 09?
The training and support planned for the coming months includes the following:
Web-based tutorials specifically directed at instructors who are moving from Blackboard to ANGEL. These tutorials include Flash animations, PDF files and YouTube videos all with step-by-step instructions. These materials will be up on waol.org, and we will add more materials as they are completed.
Elluminate sessions several times a week where instructors can get a quick tour of ANGEL and ask questions of each other.
Face to face Angel sessions delivered at multiple points along the I-5 corridor as well as the East side of the state. (The specific dates/places TBA)
An ANGEL-users listserv for our state. (Two ANGEL listservs already exist, but we have had a request to have our own.)
WAOL staff have been trained in ANGEL
1. The WAOL staff is ready and standing by to assist faculty in moving content to Angel. The above mentioned Elluminate sessions will be conducted by this office.
2. We have appropriated Boyoung Chae from the State Board elearning office and she has been trained in ANGEL and is working with the system in sharing existing Angel materials and F2F training opportunities.
Our 24 x 7 help desk Presidium is being reconfigured and redeployed to offer assistance to both faculty and students in Blackboard, ANGEL and Elluminate. These changes will reflect the comments from you and the students that the WAOL office has received.
ANGEL classrooms have a Help button on every page that opens the full 32 meg searchable instructor Reference Manual.
How long will instructors’ courses be available to them after the quarter they teach?
Courses will be available for one quarter past the end date of the course. For example, we will remove fall quarter classrooms at the end of winter quarter. Master courses stay forever.
I was under the impression that you will be ‘migrating’ our present courses over so we won't have a lot of work to do. I hope that is correct.
We've decided to create empty shells for all the courses that are moving to ANGEL rather than bulk migrate them.
The "Self-Paced Online Tutorial for Blackboard to Angel Migration" above walks through the very simple process of importing
your Blackboard course into ANGEL. However, we have heard from some instructors who moved from
Blackboard to ANGEL that it was more efficient for them to start with the empty ANGEL shell and move their content over
piece by piece. We are giving instructors an empty, named ANGEL shell, so the instructor can make the choice that works
best for each classroom.
My pool of assessment questions did not transfer from Blackboard to ANGEL.
Question pools will not transfer but ANGEL has virtually the same feature.
I need to be able to view my course as a student when I’m building my course but I’m unable to use the “student view” when I’m in my classroom.
The student view will be available only when students have access to your classroom. If you want to see your classroom from the student view before it is turned on for students, you have several options:
1. Click on the eyeglass icon in the upper right of your ANGEL classroom, but choose Team Lead rights. Team Lead will show you the student view even if students do not yet have access to your classroom.
2. Use your Guest account. This account works just as it did in Blackboard. The Guest account for your classroom is the word guest followed by your WAOL ID number followed by the section number. The default password is the WAOL ID number.
For example: guest9999sec1. Password is 9999. These guest accounts are available right now and have Team Lead rights. As instructor, you control the password, so you can control who can enter your classroom using the Guest account.
3. Build your course in your Master classroom and then export it into your current quarter classroom when completed. Then, you’ll also have your master completed and won’t have to worry about ever losing that content.
I have a problem with these plans. What can I do?
Please talk with your eLearning office or call WAOL. We want to know how things are working so we are eager to get your feedback.
How will students know which system their classroom will be on for Winter 09?
Each classroom in ANGEL will have a shadow classroom in Blackboard.
1. This is one reason we require a WAOL ID number for the ANGEL pilot classrooms.
2. All students will log in to Blackboard as usual. The students who will work in an ANGEL classroom will see an announcement from their instructor that tells them their classroom has been moved to ANGEL. The message will include instructions on how to log into ANGEL.
3. Everything else in the Blackboard classroom should be turned off.
How do I turn off most of my Blackboard classroom elements and what am I supposed to post to the students about how to access their ANGEL classroom?
Follow these steps for making only your Announcements available in your Blackboard classroom:
1. You'll need to login to your Blackboard classroom.
2. Go to your Control Panel.
3. Under Course Options choose Manage Tools.
4. Choose Tool Availability.
5. Deselect every tool except Announcements and Staff Information.
6. Click Submit in the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
7. Next, you'll need to post the image of the ANGEL login graphic in the banner as well as a note in the Announcements stating something to the effect of, “Your classroom has been moved to the ANGEL system. Please access the course by clicking on this link (http://angel.waol.org) and then following the directions above for logging in. It is highly recommended that you bookmark this link so it is handy the next time you need it.”
How do I post the image of the ANGEL login in the Announcement banner in my Blackboard course?
Follow the steps below for adding an image to your Blackboard Announcements banner:
1. Right click and save the ANGEL logon image below to your desktop
2. Login to your Blackboard classroom
3. Go to your Control Panel.
4. Choose Course Design under Course Options
5. Click on Course Banner
6. Browse for the image and select
7. Click the Submit button
What assistance will you provide for students who are working in ANGEL Winter 09?
We will provide materials on the WAOL web site for students. In addition, students will be able to get assistance from their college ELC office, from the WAOL instruction office and 24 x 7 from Presidium.
So what platform is my Winter Quarter 2009 class going to be on?
All the WAOL system owned-shared courses will be on Angel.
We will continue to have Pilot courses on Angel for winter quarter. Please reference the question above about “How will students know which system their classroom will be on for Winter 09?”
What is the deadline for Winter pilots?
The Winter 09 Pilot Deadline was October 24

Lower Columbia ANGEL training classes
Lower Columbia offers online classes to train instructors to use ANGEL:
EDUC 145 is two credits - ANGEL for Instructors is a fully online introductory course designed to enable instructors to begin using the ANGEL Course Management System with distance education and/or partially online courses. Students will gain a basic understanding of the ANGEL toolset.
Prerequisite: None
EDUC 275 is a three credit class - This course prepares students to design and teach an online course using a course management system and appropriate methods of pedagogy/andragogy.
Prerequisite: Instructor permission.
WAOL Faculty Training in ANGEL:
the first class for instructors new to online teaching will begin on December 15th. This two-week class is a replacement for the old Planning for Success course, and it has the same outcomes:
1. Exposes instructors to learning online
2. Exposes instructors to online pedagogy
3. Provides training in how to use ANGEL
The course, as always, is free to anyone in our system, and it is available to anyone. It starts December 15 and ends December 31. Please let instructors know that this is the pilot offering, so we will be interested in their feedback on content and on the length of the course.
To register, go to http://www.waol.org/info/training/instTrainingRegistration.aspx
This training is for instructors who are new to online. It is not required for instructors who have already taken Planning for Success, although anyone is welcome to sign up.
